China: Chengxi Shipyard Repairs ‘Jinshan’ Floating Dock

Due to the general conditions of “Jinshan” floating dock, Chengxi Shipyard Co., Ltd decided to reinforce it. With renewing the main deck as the major repair, there was about 2,200 square meters of renewal area and with over 200 tons of steel used.

Once the task was completed, a technical survey was carried out so as to assemble the drawings and come up with a repair scheme. On March 9th 2013, the undocking of “Saga Odyssey” vessel indicated the commencement of the “Jinshan” dock repair. Since many vessels have berthed along the quay recently, the deck blocks had to be firstly carried by a barge to two ends of “Jinshan” dock and then lifted inside the dock.

During the repair, the Steel Fabrication Workshop arranged for 9 teams with over 200 people to work on the dock, working 24/7 to enable vessels to dock as soon as possible.

By March 14th 2013, the steel work of “Jinshan” Floating dock was basically completed, 3 days earlier than it was originally scheduled.
