China: CNOOC Starts Construction on Hainan LNG Terminal


The liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, invested by China National Offshore Oil Corporation, with the total investment capital of CNY 6.5 billion, was started in the YangPu Economic Development Zone of Hainan on August 2.

This project will be completed and put into operation in August 2014, with the output capacity as high as 3 million tons.

This project covers an area of 57.2 hectares. And the project is composed of the accepting station, the port and the gas transmission pipeline, which is one of the key energy projects of Hainan province.

The gas supply covers the whole Hainan Island and even spreads to Guangxi province and the west region of Guangdong province after the completion of this project.

The LNG project in Hainan was started in 2005, and approved by the National Development and Reform Committee (NDRC) this July. This is the sixth LNG project of CNOOC under construction at present.
