China Jan LNG Imports Surge YoY

China, the world’s biggest energy consumer, imported record amounts of liquefied natural gas in January due to opening of new LNG import terminals and winter heating demand.

The country imported 2.65 million tons of liquefied natural gas in January, up 77 percent compared to a year earlier, customs data showed.

China imported 2.43 million tons of LNG in December, a rise of 34 percent compared to the year before.
