China: World’s Longest Cross-Sea Bridge Opens to Traffic

On June 30, the world’s longest cross-sea bridge–Qingdao Bay Bridge, designed and partly constructed by CCC, was open to traffic. With a full length of 36.48 kilometers, the bridge is the starting section of Qingdao-Lanzhou Highway in the state highway network, as well as the world’s largest-ever cross-sea bridge.

With a speed of 80km/h, a width of 35 meters and a design reference period of 100 years, the bridge is designed in accordance with the standards of two-way six-lane highway and eight-lane city expressway. After going into operation, the bridge will narrow the distance between the east and west coasts by about 30 kilometers, further consolidate Qingdao’s leading position in Shandong Peninsula Blue Economic Zone, and play a significant role in enhancing the cross-sea transportation and communication of Qingdao, breaking the traffic bottleneck around Jiaozhou Bay, improving the investment environment of Jiaodong Peninsula and speeding up the development of Qingdao’s economy and the city cluster on Jiaozhou Peninsula.
