China’s LNG imports from Australia rise

China’s LNG imports from Australia reached a record high of 1.7 million tons in the third quarter of this year, jumping 44 percent as compared to 2014. 

According to a report released by Australian Government’s Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, the value of LNG imports from Australia rose 103 percent to US$485 million in the third quarter.

However, China’s overall LNG imports decreased 3.8 percent to 4.6 million tons in the third quarter and pipeline imports decreased 4 percent to 5.8 million tons.

LNG imports from Qatar declined 13 percent to 1.2 million tons as well as imports from Malaysia that declined 24 percent to 474,000 tons.

Liquefied natural gas imports from Indonesia into China increased 21 percent to 817,000 tons.

The value of LNG imports dropped 38 percent during the third quarter 2015 with  pipeline imports also down 27 percent, compared to the corresponding quarter in 2014, the report shows.
