CIMC Holds Naming Ceremony for Two Semis

China’s CIMC Raffles has Monday morning, November 25, in its Yantai yard, held a naming ceremony for two semi-submersible drilling rigs.

The rigs, designed and built by CIMC Raffles, were named OOS Gretha and OOS Prometheus. According to CIMC, the drilling units will leave for Brazil at the same time.

The OOS Gretha particulars: Length overall 137.5meters; Beam 81 meters; Draft: 39 meters, Maximum variable load 7070 tones; Accommodation 618 people; equipped with DP3 system; Classed by ABS.

It is the first asymmetric semi-submersible unit without bracing in the world, which, according to CIMC, reduces the towing resistance and dynamic positioning load, improves the sailing speed greatly and makes average transit speed from about 8 knots to more than 12 knots.

These features enable the rig to serve in West Africa, Brazil, Gulf of Mexico and the North Sea.

The sister rig OOS Prometheus: Length overall 118m; Beam: 7 0m, Draft: 38m; Maximum variable load 5000 tones; Accommodation: 500 people; max operation depth of 1000m, Classed by ABS.
