CIMC Raffles Cuts ‘North Dragon’ Steel (China)

Chinese construction company Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Limited has begun construction of a semi-submersible offshore drilling rig, ordered by North Sea Rigs AS.

The steel cutting ceremony for the rig took place at the company’s Yantai yard on Sunday, June 28.

According to a press release issued by CIMC Raffles, the rig will be used for exploration in Norwegian waters.

The rig, named “North Dragon”, is of the GM4-D design. It will be able to operate in water depths of up to 500 m, and its maximum drilling depth will be 8000 meters. The drilling package will be supplied by National Oilwell Varco.
