CLNG: LNG industry gains regulatory certainty with passage of S. 2012

The Energy Policy Modernization Act (S. 2012) that was passed by the Senate by an 85-13 vote will provide the LNG industry with confidence in the regulatory process, according to CLNG’s executive director Charlie Riedl.

The act requires the U.S. Department of Energy to issue a permitting decision within 45 days of an export project’s completion of the environmental review.

The Center for Liquefied Natural Gas noted that the bill will now move to Conference, where it will be merged with H.R. 8, The North American Energy Security and Infrastructure Act.

The H.R.8, which similarly received bipartisan support from the House of Representatives last year, requires the DOE to reach a decision within 30 days of the conclusion of the environmental review.

Riedl added that the project developers now have a timeframe to work with which will help “catalyze the fast-maturing domestic LNG industry.”
