CNOOC’s Gas Fields Offshore China Remain Shut after Subsea Pipeline Leak

CNOOC stopped the production at the PY30-1 and HZ21-1 platforms after finding the leak at the Zhuhai terminal in southern China.

Outages at two gas platforms may last for weeks following a leak in a subsea pipeline earlier this week, media official from CNOOC stated.

An official said: “It shouldn’t take too long to fix. May be several weeks.”

“People are questioning our operational capability, but from our initial judgment we suspect external reasons for the damage to the pipeline.”

The company will soon send the divers to locate a leakage source and to start repairs.

This is CNOOC’s second subsea pipeline leak in last twelve months.

Its Jinzhou 9-3 oilfield in northern part of China was shut down for about a month after an oil leak was uncovered in October.
