CNPC Construction Begins on No.2 Gas Plant of Amu Darya Project in Turkmenistan

On December 13, ground breaking ceremony for No.2 Gas Processing Plant of the Amu Darya project was held in Bagtyiarlyk contract area in Turkmenistan.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, Chinese Ambassador to Turkmenistan Xiao Qinghua, CNPC President Zhou Jiping and Vice President Wang Dongjin attended the ceremony. Berdymukhammedov and Zhou Jiping laid the foundation stone and delivered speeches for the occasion.

Since the No.1 Gas Processing Plant became operational in December 2009, the Amu Darya project has delivered 19.56 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China. The construction of the No.2 Gas Processing Plant marks the second phase of the Amu Darya project is in full swing. Located at the Bagtyiarlyk contract area, the No.2 Gas Processing Plant has a designed capacity of 8 billion cubic meters per year, with its first and second series of equipment estimated to become operational in 2013, and the third and fourth series in 2014. Completion of the plant will boost the annual deliverability of the Amu Darya project to 13 billion cubic meters.

As of the same day, President Berdymukhammedov cut ribbon for the completion of CNPC’s office building in Bagtyiarlyk, and inspected the exploration and development workstation of CNPC (Turkmenistan) Amu Darya Gas Company in the building.
