Colombo Dockyard Gives a Makeover to Lauren L

Lauren L is an impressively spacious and exceptionally serviced super yacht built in 2002 by German company Cassens-Werft. With a steel hull and superstructure, the motor yacht features interior and exterior design by Alpha Marine.

The luxury yacht called in for her intermediate class survey and related drydocking repairs. Colombo had previously  provided repair services to the owners on two occasions in 2012. The first was the 10 year class renewal survey and soon after extensive grounding damage repairs.

During this drydocking call the work package covered repairs in all sectors, including  hull treatment; fire unit, amid which fire extinguisher was subjected to routine annual inspection; followed by repairs in  electrical, automation, electronic systems; engine overhaul, rudder removal etc.

High net-worth luxury yacht repair sector prospects look promising, with many of the yacht operators terminating their cruises close to Maldives in the Indian Ocean, reverting to repair- maintenance soon after a charter. The repairs were carried out meeting the Class Germanischer Lloyd classification society requirements.

Colombo has already emerged as a marine hub for commercial container traffic; the successful completion of this super luxury yacht projects and marketing of the services to this un-tapped sector looks promising for the future.
