The well, part of the ATP 1191 Mahalo coal seam gas project in the Bowen Basin, 240 km west of Gladstone, is close to infrastructure with pipeline connections to the Gladstone domestic and LNG market.

Comet Ridge noted that the Mira 6 horizontal well drilled in November 2017, has an in-coal seam length of 924 meters and is drilled into a single seam of coal.

The company noted in its statement that the company worked on reducing the back pressure in the surface facilities, enabling the increase in gas flow.

Tor McCaul, Comet Ridge’s managing director, said the joint venture partners are finalizing plans to drill several wells in the Mahalo project,  commencing in September.

The joint venture partners are Comet Ridge with a 40 percent equity share with Australia Pacific LNG and Santos holding a 30 percent equity share each.
