Southeast Asian infill drilling campaign yields oil uptick with two wells now online

Exploration & Production

AIM-listed and Singapore-headquartered oil and gas player Jadestone Energy has achieved a production boost at its field off the coast of Malaysia by bringing another well on stream, as a result of its infill drilling program, which enabled it to spud a third one as well, with results currently being evaluated to determine the next steps.

Jadestone Energy has drilled and put into production mode the second well, EBA-07ST1, in the 2026 Malaysia infill drilling campaign at 2,800 barrels of oil per day (bopd), a month after the first well in the program, as announced in June 2026, achieved a peak production rate of approximately 3,200 bopd.

EBA-07ST1, described as an extended reach well, was drilled around 13% below budget with a 930-meter horizontal reservoir section at a total measured depth of 5,473 meters. This is deemed to be the longest well drilled to date on the East Belumut field, in which the AIM-listed firm holds a 60% interest, exceeding the length of the first well in the 2026 campaign by 600 meters.

With a 4.1 ERD ratio, the well is said to have set a new Malaysia record in extreme reach drilling, further demonstrating the company’s in-house drilling capability. Jadestone booked Velesto’s NAGA 8 rig to support infill drilling activities at the East Belumut Phase 9 project for a period of four months, starting in March.

Since the encouraging results of the first two wells in the 2026 drilling program resulted in a decision to drill a third contingent well, the Asian player confirmed the conclusion of drilling and completion activities on the well, with results to be reported in due course.

T. Mitch Little, Chief Executive Officer of Jadestone, commented: “Following on from the excellent results of the first well in the 2026 East Belumut campaign, the second well has delivered a similarly positive outcome. It sets a new record for extended reach drilling across all basins in Malaysia, a very impressive milestone by our drilling team.

“In aggregate, the first two wells have increased production from the field by over 150% (an increase of ~6,000 bopd) – further validating our proven capability to unlock reserves, and create value in existing fields, by identifying and executing on opportunities bypassed by previous operators. We look forward to updating the market on the third well in the near future.”
