Copenhagen Malmö Port Awaits a Busy 2016 Cruise Season

Scandinavian Copenhagen Malmö Port is expecting a growth of 9 percent in the number of cruise visitors in the 2016 cruise season, and a record number of visitors per day at the end of June.

According to the port, cruise traffic has seen a positive trend for Copenhagen over the last ten years. In 2005 there were around 400,000 passengers and this year 740,000 visitors are expected. CMP added that just under half of calls in 2016 will be turnaround calls.

“The outlook for the cruise industry is especially promising, with a steady rise in demand and more ships, even bigger ones, coming out of the shipyards. We expect to see continued growth in the number of visitors and ships coming to Copenhagen,” says COO Arnt Møller Pedersen from Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP).

CMP expects to host 850,000 cruise visitors in 2017, beating its previous record of 840,000 visitors set in 2012.

Launching on April 28, the 2016 season will feature 304 calls by 67 different ships from 35 different shipping companies until it concludes on October 13.
