Croatia - Uljanik Shipyard Launches Two Vessels Build for United Shipping Services

Friday 28th October was a day filled with events starting with the delivery and signing of delivery documents for yard 488 “Veruda” constructed by ULJANIK Shipyard for United Shipping Services, which is Uljanik Plovidba. The commissioning documents were signed by Marinko Brgić, President of the Managing Board of Uljanik Shipyard and Dragutin Pavletić, Director of Uljanik Plovidba.

The delivery of “Veruda” was followed by the launching from slipway no.1 of yard 489, which was named “Stoja” and which was also constructed by Uljanik for the company United Shipping Services. This ship has been constructed for the transport of bulk cargo and has a deadweight of 52,000 tonnes, length 189.90 m and width 32.24 m, with a speed of 15 knots achieved by Uljanik’s MAN 6S50MC-C7 engine, generating a power of 8,600 kW at 212 rpm.

The ship was released into the sea by the traditional cutting of the rope by Ms Valentina Butković, who was chosen due to being among the best school leaving students, and she wished the ship safe and long sailings on the world’s seas, to be an example of the successful shipbuilding tradition and to always return her crew safely home.

Mr. Eduard Milovan, a new member of the Managing Board of Uljanik Shipyard and Director of Production, has emphasized the fact that Uljanik shipbuilder’s should be satisfied with the work done, that the ship is at a high degree of completion and all works are being performed in accordance with the plan which is a form of guarantee that the delivery will follow by the end of January 2012. “A great contribution to this work has been from the inspectors of the company “Uljanik Plovidba” to whom we would like to congratulate and thank for the good business collaboration, and also the inspectors of the “Croatian Register of Ships” and “Bureau Veritas” should be thanked for their help. Finally, congratulations to all Uljanik workers and subcontractors for the last launching of this year,” concluded Milovan.

Dragutin Pavletić, Director of Uljanik Plovidba, stressed the fact that with the strategy of renewing their fleet by 2015, Uljanik Plovidba has opted to construct their ships in domestic shipyards, and with the order of these four ships Uljanik Shipyard has proven a true, sincere and socially-aware partner as well as the most important promoter of the Croatian ship industry.

The contract for the construction of “Stoja” was signed on 18th January 2010, while the keel for same was laid on 17th June 2011. From the beginning of this current year Uljanik shipyard has had two launchings so that today’s launching represents the third launching of the current year and with that Uljanik has realized the plan of launchings for this year.

After the launching the keel for yard 490 was laid on the slipway, and will be a sister vessel of “Veruda” and “Stoja” for the transportation of bulk cargo which will also be constructed for United Shipping Services by Uljanik Shipyard.

Continuing the day’s events the flag was raised aboard yard 488 “Veruda” thus marking the official delivery of the ship to the company United Shipping Services.

The Contract for the construction of “Veruda” was also signed at the beginning of 2010, the keel was laid on 19th February 2011, while the ship was launched on 17th of June 2011. With the construction of these ships ULJANIK has maintained continuity of production at a time when a significant recovery of shipbuilding market still has not come about.

Overall, Uljanik has delivered in this current year four ships – two multi-purpose ships for the transportation of cars, trucks and containers, “Grande Togo” and “Grande Costa d’Avorio”, have been delivered to the Grimaldi Group while two dredgers, “Fernao de Magalhaes” and Niccolo Machiavelli”, have been delivered to the Jan De Nul Group. Today’s delivery of “Veruda” is the fifth of this year and with this delivery the Shipyard has realized its plan for 2011.
