Crude Oil Spills Near Bay Long, Louisiana

Some 5,300 gallons of crude oil were discharged from a pipeline near Bay Long, Louisiana, on September 5, 2016, according to the United States Coast Guard.

The oil leaked from a pipeline owned by Harvest Pipeline Company after it was struck by a Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company vessel that was conducting excavation operations.

The pipeline was reported as secured.

The vessel’s owner has contracted ECM Maritime Services, an oil response organization, to manage clean-up operations.

Environmental Safety & Health has deployed 3,000 feet of hard-boom, while OMI Environmental Solutions and Clean Gulf Association have been using sorbent material and skimmers to collect the oil.

The USCG has conducted aerial assessments of the site and surrounding areas.

The incident is under investigation.
