CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography Acquires RV Sindhu Sadhana

CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography has purchased an oceanographic research vessel named Sindhu Sadhana.

The vessel is 80m long and 17.6m wide and can accommodate 57 personnel, The Times of India reports.

The vessel was launched in July 2012, and its aim is to enhance the capabilities of Indian oceanographers in research and understanding of seas around the country.

RV Sindhu Sadhana will also be used in oceanographic training.

The vessel is equipped with single beam and multi beam echo sounders, parasound water column and sub-bottom profiler, gravimeter, magnetometer, Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler, conductivity-temperature-depth profiler, autonomous weather station, air quality monitors, etc.

Prof. Brahmachari, DG-CSIR, expressed his satisfaction of the purchase.
