Cyclone Hudhud Slams East India Ports

India’s eastern ports of  Visakhapatnam and Gangavaram are still closed after cyclone Hudhud stormed through the area on Sunday with wind speeds reaching 90 miles per hour, India’s media report.

The preliminary reports from the Gangavaram port say that cyclone Hudhud, declared by the port as ‘force majeure’, damaged the port infrastructure extensively, including the storage areas and the conveyor system.

The port officials believe that it will take up to four weeks for the port to start operating at full capacity. Vessels that might be waiting at anchorage are advised to divert. The port officials have also warned that the port might have suffered some cargo losses as well.

Visakhapatnam port has suffered loss of power when Hudhud knocked down transmission towers, and the port officials project that it will take up to three days for the power supply to be restored.
