Daewoo Orders Alfa Laval Heaters for FPSO (South Korea)

Alfa Laval – a world leader in heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling – has won an order from the South Korean shipyard Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) to supply Alfa Laval Aalborg heaters to a floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) which will be built in Korea.

The order, booked in the Marine & Offshore Systems segment, is worth approximately SEK 130 million (USD 20 million) and delivery is scheduled for 2013.

The Alfa Laval Aalborg heaters are the largest in the company’s product range, and they will be used to preheat gas condensate prior to the processing onboard. The FPSO is being built by DSME in South Korea – one of the world’s leading contractors specialized in building offshore platforms, drilling rigs and FPSO vessels. The FPSO, owned by the Japanese oil giant INPEX is part of their Ichthys project and will be stationed offshore Western Australia. It has a production design life of 40 years and an estimated production capacity of 100,000 barrels of gas condensate per day.

“This is an interesting order in many ways; it includes our market leading Alfa Laval Aalborg heaters, it is from one of the biggest shipbuilders for advanced oil and gas vessels and it is in South Korea which is becoming an increasingly important market for Alfa Laval”, says Lars Renström, President and CEO of the Alfa Laval Group. “The order confirms our strong position as reliable supplier to the oil and gas industry.”
