Denmark: New Stevedoring Company in Esbjerg to Set New Standards

Denmark New Stevedoring Company in Esbjerg to Set New Standards

Two strong partners with wide experience from the offshore and heavy lift industries are behind the new stevedoring company Nordic Stevedoring based in Esbjerg in Denmark. With a unique workforce of industry specialists, the new company wants to set new standards in safety and efficiency.

Offshore-equipment, wind turbines and project cargoes are some of the specialities of the newly founded stevedoring company Nordic Stevedoring ApS. The Danish company will offer a new approach on stevedoring operations in the “home port” of Esbjerg, which is a major port for handling of wind turbines and offshore-related cargoes for the oil & gas industry.

-We are bringing in foremen with a wealth of experience and who are trained to extremely high standards, says René Elling, CEO of Nordic Stevedoring, and continues:

Our operational staff comes with an educational background which is second to none in the industry and our key employees have actively participated in developing leading industry standards in the sector. Due to their background they fully understand the needs of the clients in the industry. We strongly believe that this, combined with extensive operational experience, will enable us to provide stevedoring services that will set new standards in terms of safety and efficiency.

Although a new company, Nordic Stevedoring draws upon the extensive experience of its founding partners, the Esbjerg-based port services company Niels Winther & Co. and Nordic Maritime Solutions in Leer, Germany. The latter is owned and headed by René Elling, who most recently served as COO at the World’s largest heavy lift carrier, BBC Chartering in Leer.

Niels Winther & Co., founded in 1931, has provided stevedoring, terminal and ship’s agency services for decades. The company has been heavily involved in the offshore oil & gas sector since the early 70’s and the growing offshore wind industry since the late 90’s.

Stevedoring operations in Esbjerg is a logical first step for Nordic Stevedoring, and the new company has already secured its first projects. A flexible setup allows Nordic Stevedoring to place foremen, rigging and lashing teams on projects anywhere in the world where suitable and well-trained personnel might be difficult to get.

-Basically, we can work anywhere. We can offer to plan and supervise cargo operations in locations where the necessary expertise is not available. Our foremen, riggers and lashing teams can assist in protecting the interests of ship owners, charterers, cargo owners and insurance companies wherever needed, says René Elling.
