Denmark: TORM Sells Two Large Product Tankers to Maersk

Maersk Tankers has purchased the following two large product tankers from TORM, pool partner in The LR2 Pool. The vessels are sister vessels to Maersk Tankers’ P-types, already trading in the pool.

  • TORM Mette                     Built 2007           109,350 mts
  • TORM Marianne             Built 2008            109,350 mts

The purchase is in alignment with Maersk Tankers’ strategy to grow at the bottom of the cycle through purchase of quality second-hand tonnage.

The vessels have been acquired at attractive levels and will continue to trade in The LR2 Pool. The vessels are to be delivered during the fourth quarter of 2011.

“Growing our fleet at attractive price is in alignment with Maersk Tankers’ strategy to reinforce our market leading position in the LR2 segment,” says CCO Klaus Rud Sejling.

The purchase of TORM Mette and TORM Marianne will bring Maersk Tankers’ fleet of large product tankers to sixteen LR2 tankers (owned and T/C-in) plus two aframaxes.
