Det norske: Espevær High Appraisal Results “Very Good”

Norway’s oil company Det norske oljeselskap ASA, today, November 6, announced that the results of the drilling of Espevær High appraisal well “are very good”.

The well, which is part of the Johan Sverdrup field, in Production License (PL) 265, is in the process of being concluded. The well, drilled with Ocean Vanguard semi-submersible rig will be plugged and abandoned.

The objective of the appraisal well was to determine reservoir properties and thickness, and to acquire  data in shallow sections of the well to serve as part of the planning basis for development. The well struck an oil column of approximately 30 meters in Upper Jurassic reservoir rocks of very high reservoir quality in the entire interval, Det norske informed.

“The results will eliminate the uncertainty pertaining to the reservoir quality of the northern part of central Johan Sverdrup,” Det Norske which owns 20 per cent interest in the production licence 265, said today.

Discovered in 2012, Johan Sverdrup, operated by oil giant Statoil (4o%) , is considered to be one of the largest discoveries on the Norwegian continental shelf since the mid 1980s.

Other partners in the licence are Petoro (30%) and Lundin Petroleum (10%).
