Det norske gains go-ahead for North Sea appraisal well

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Det norske oljeselskap a drilling permit for the appraisal well 25/2-18 A, offshore Norway.

The well 25/2-18 A will be drilled from the Maersk Drilling’s jack-up drilling rig Maersk Interceptor in production license 442, located in the North Sea offshore Norway.

The drilling program for well 25/2-18 A relates to the drilling of an appraisal well. Det norske oljeselskap is the operator with an ownership interest of 90 percent and Lotos Exploration and Production Norge is a licensee with a 10 percent ownership interest.

The area in this license constitutes a part of block 25/2 and 25/3. Production license 442 was awarded in APA 2006, on June 15, 2007. This is the second well to be drilled within the license.

The permit is contingent upon the operator securing all other permits and consents required by other authorities prior to starting drilling activities.

The oil company recently completed the exploration well 25/2-18 S on the Langfjellet prospect in the license 442 and made an oil discovery. Preliminary volume calculations for the discovery are in the range of 24 to 74 million barrels of oil equivalent.
