Det norske: Ivar Aasen living quarters ready for sail away

Apply Leirvik has built the Ivar Aasen living quarters module and placed it on a barge in the harbour at Stord. The module will later be lifted into place at the Ivar Aasen platform in the North Sea.

According to Det norske, the operator of the field with 34.8 per% interest, the module is 40 meters tall and weighs 2,300 tons due to the 10 lower meters that are made of steel, while the remaining upper 30 meters are built in aluminium.

The living quarters on Ivar Aasen have seven floors and a total area of around 3,300 square meters. It has 70 single cabins, recreation areas, offices, hospital, control rooms and helicopter deck. In addition, it comes with two lifeboats and a man-overboard boat.

“We are very pleased with the project and the work Apply Lervik has performed. The project is completed within time and budget, but above all, we are very happy with the excellent HSE standards shown. Several hundred men have worked without any lost-time injuries during the project since contract award took place in September 2013,” says Karl Johnny Hersvik CEO in Det norske.

Hersvik will Wednesday, June 29 at 12.30 participate in a ceremony at Apply Lervik at Stord to mark the completion and sail away – together with the personnel and management from Apply Lervik and representatives from Det norske.

The Ivar Aasen topside is currently on its way from Singapore to the North Sea.

“With the living quarter completed and the topside on its way from Singapore to the North Sea we are within schedule to achieve the goal of production start-up on Ivar Aasen around 1 December 2016,” says Hersvik.

The Ivar Aasen field is located west of the Johan Sverdrup field in the North Sea and contains approximately 204 million barrels of oil equivalent, including the Hanz discovery. The economic life of the Ivar Aasen field can be as long as 20 years, depending on oil prices and production trends.
