Det Norske Reports Oil Discovery at Aldous Major South, Offshore Norway

Det norske oljeselskap ASA announces an oil discovery in the appraisal well 16/2-10 on Aldous Major South in PL 265. The license is operated by Statoil. In addition to Det norske, the partners in PL 265 are the Norwegian state, through Petoro, and Lundin Petroleum.

An oil column of 50 to 55 meters has been encountered in Jurassic sandstones. The semi submersible drilling rig Transocean Leader has taken core samples of the entire reservoir interval, whilst the logging program is still ongoing.

The operator has previously communicated preliminary volumes in the range of 400 to 800 million barrels of oil equivalents for Aldous Major South in PL 265. Statoil has informed the partnership of its intentions to publish an updated volume estimate when the logging program has been completed and all data has been analysed.

The appraisal well 16/2-10 is located about 4.2 kilometer north of the 16/2-8 Aldous Major South discovery well on Utsira High in the North Sea.

“We are very pleased so far. Beyond that, we do not wish to comment on the result before the entire logging program has been completed and we have received an updated volume estimate from the operator,” Chief executive officer Erik Haugane commented.
