DHL Slams Newlead Holdings with USD 14.3 Mn Lawsuit

Greek shipping, logistics and commodity company Newlead Holdings LTD is being taken to court by DHL Project & Chartering Limited as the company filed a USD 14.3 million lawsuit in the US District Court for the Southern District of Georgia, court documents show.

The lawsuit arises from alleged deficiencies on a Newlead Holdings-owned bulk carrier, which reportedly caused additional costs due to cargo delay.

DHL Project & Chartering Limited, a chartering arm of DHL, has secured an order from the US District Judge William T. Moore for the seizure of all tangible and intangible property of Newlead Holdings, including the company’s 35,500 dwt bulker Newlead Castellano.

The 2013-built vessel is currently anchored off the coast of Savannah, according to AIS data from Marine Traffic.

Newlead Castellano was previously served with a warrant of arrest on April 19 by bonholders Ray Capital Inc, Cheyenne Holding Ltd, Oppenheim Capital Ltd and Labroy Shiptrade Limited, when the parties filed a USD 7.1 million lawsuit due to the vessel owner’s alleged failure to make payments on Ray Capital notes.
