Divers Retrieve AirAsia QZ8501 Flight Black Box

The black box of the AirAsia QZ8501 Flight has been retrieved from Java Sea by Indonesian Navy divers.

Last week pinger locator detected pings from the black box that was found stuck at a depth of 30 meters in the plane debris.

According to Reuters report, divers retrieved the flight data recorder, and the cockpit voice recorder has been located but still not retrieved.

Authorities hope that the data from the black box will unveil the cause of the accident where 162 people lost their lives.

The black box will be sent to Jakarta for the further analysis that could take up to a month.

The AirAsia Flight QZ8501 vanished from radar on its way from Surabaya to Singapore on December 28.

Until now, the search resulted in finding 48 bodies including two still strapped to their seats.

The rest 114 missing people are believed to be in a plane’s fuselage.

UPDATE January 14, 2015:

The National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS) Republic of Indonesia announced that Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) of QZ8501 aircraft has been found and lifted from the seafloor yesterday. The CVR was found at a distance of approximately 20 meter from the location where the flight data recorder was found yesterday.

Following this finding, BASARNAS confirmed that both parts of the aircraft’s blackbox (flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder) have been evacuated and flown to Jakarta for further investigation by Indonesia’s National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT).
