DNV GL Buys German Power Grid Training Company

DNV GL has acquired GridLab, a Germany-based provider of power grid training, seminar and studies, from 50Hertz’s holding company Eurogrid International.

DNV GL said that after an in-depth due diligence it found that GridLab will complement its current offerings and further strengthen its service portfolio in the power transmission and distribution sector.

The acquisition will see the takeover of all of GridLab’s employees, consisting of 14 permanently employed staff members, as well as the office and training facilities in Berlin Schönefeld.

“GridLab’s business is an ideal match with our existing portfolio of grid and renewable services,” said Andreas Schröter, Executive Vice President Central Europe and the Mediterranean at DNV GL.

“The energy transition calls for new methods and procedures in operating the energy system. Given the huge complexity that grid operators are faced with now and in the future, we expect an increasing demand for standardized and certified training of grid operator personnel. Beyond this we are looking forward to intensifying our partnership with 50Hertz by training their staff in GridLab complemented by other DNV GL training and expertise.”

GridLab is a technical assessment and development center which provides services to recruit, assess and develop network and system operation personnel for transmission system operators, distribution system operators and utilities, training for basic switching authorization, as well as initial training for grid and system management.

The company’s services also include seminars for network operation focused on decision making, soft-skill and communication training to deal with crisis scenarios, and an additional multitude of network planning and development services on all network levels and for renewable and traditional generation utilities.
