Dong Signs MHI Vestas for Borkum Riffgrund 2

DONG Energy and MHI Vestas Offshore Wind have signed an agreement covering the delivery of the V164-8.0MW wind turbine to the Borkum Riffgrund 2 Offshore Wind Farm in Germany.

On 10 June 2015, DONG Energy announced that MHI Vestas Offshore Wind was the preferred bidder for the Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind project. Now, the negotiations with MHI Vestas Offshore Wind have materialised into an agreement between the two companies.

Mats Vikholm, Senior Vice President in DONG Energy, said: “We’re very satisfied with the agreement we’ve made with MHI Vestas Offshore Wind. Using larger and more efficient wind turbines is an integral step on our way to reducing the cost of electricity, thereby making offshore wind even more competitive.”

Borkum Riffgrund 2 has an awarded grid capacity of 450MW and is located in the North Sea, approximately 57km off the north-west coast of Germany. The offshore wind farm will be able to cover the consumption of 460,000 German households and is located next to the 312MW Borkum Riffgrund 1 Offshore Wind Farm which will become fully operational later this year.

The agreement between DONG Energy and MHI Vestas Offshore Wind is conditional upon DONG Energy making final investment decision on the project.
