Drifting rig shuts Pluto LNG production

Australian LNG player Woodside said that it has temporarily shut-in production at its Pluto LNG plant on the Burrup Peninsula.

This precautionary action was taken after a submersible drilling rig under contract to another party drifted near Pluto flowlines, the company said in a statement.

Woodside said that underwater inspections have confirmed the integrity of the flowlines.

Production will be restarted when the rig has been relocated away from Pluto infrastructure.

Pluto LNG project includes a single processing train with a production capacity of 4.3 million tonnes a year.

The project is underpinned by 15-year sales agreements with Kansai Electric and Tokyo Gas.

Both companies became project participants in January 2008, each acquiring a 5% interest in the foundation project.
