DSME Nets Order for USD 380 Mn Trio

South Korean shipbuilding major Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) has won an order for the construction of three new ships, worth an estimated USD 380 million.

The ships include one 174,000 cbm LNG carrier set for delivery in the first quarter of 2022 and two very large crude carriers of 318,000 dwt, scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2021.

DSME did not disclose the identity of the buyer in the exchange filing, however, according to Asiasis, the companies behind the order are Maran Gas Maritime and Maran Tankers Management, subsidiaries of the Greek Angelicoussis Shipping Group.

The contract comes on the back of an ordering spree for LNG carriers, as Maran Gas has already ordered six LNG carriers from DSME this year. Announcing its order back in August, the Greek company said the duo was in talks for further units.

The latest order brings the Greek owner’s orderbook at DSME to 110 ships ordered since 1994. These include 12 LNG carriers set for delivery between 2020 and 2022, based on the data from VesselsValue.

DSME has secured contracts for 30 ships this year, worth approximately USD 5.7 billion, thus achieving 69 percent of its USD 8.77 billion target.
