Dunkirk LNG’s third commissioning cargo arrives

Third commissioning cargo for Dunkirk LNG, France’s fourth liquefied natural gas import terminal, shipped from Qatar, has reached the facility on Tuesday. 

In a brief social media update on Tuesday, Dunkerque LNG informed that the 145,700-cbm Maran Gas Asclepius is approaching the terminal. The AIS data provided by the vessel tracking website, MarineTraffic, shows the vessel has docked at the terminal’s jetty.

The Dunkirk LNG terminal faced a few issues during the commissioning phase. It received the first cargo on in July aboard Teekay’s 135,243-cbm Madrid Spirit that was followed by the 140,500-cbm Hispania Spirit in September.

The terminal, that faced difficulties since the delivery of the first cargo, has completed 60 percent of the operational test, and 30 percent the safety tests, as part of the commissioning phase. Testing will continue well after the start of the commercial operation which is expected by the end of the year.

Once in full operation, the terminal is expected to be able to regasify 13 billion cbm of gas per year, enough to cover about 20 percent of France and Belgium’s yearly gas consumption.

Dunkirk LNG is 65 percent owned by EDF, 25 percent by Fluxys and 10 percent by Total.
