E.ON Receives Consent for Drilling in Norwegian Sea

E.ON Ruhrgas Norge AS (ERN) has received consent to carry out exploration drilling of well 6507/6-4 (S&A) in the Norwegian Sea with the Borgland Dolphin mobile facility. 

The well will be drilled in production licence 350, with ERN as the operator (40%). The other licensees are Statoil ASA (30%) and PGNiG (30%).   The well is located in the Norwegian Sea, approx. 39 kilometres northeast of Heidrun. The shortest distance to the mainland is 160 kilometres (Vikna).

The well has the following geographical coordinates:

N 65° 38’ 6.2”, E 7° 43’ 33.0”. Water depth at the site is 362 metres.

The activity will last approx. 85 to 112 days, depending on any discoveries.

Borgland Dolphin (pictured) is a type Aker H-3 semi-submersible mobile facility that was built as a flotel at Bergen Mekaniske Verksted in 1976.

In 1999, it was modified to a mobile drilling facility at Harland and Wolff Shipbuilding and Heavy Industries Ltd. in Belfast.

The facility is owned by Dolphin AS and received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in September 2004.
