E.R. Schiffahrt to Manage Two NYK Ships

Hamburg-based ship management company E.R. Schiffahrt is set to manage two 210,000 dwt Newcastlemax bulk carriers for Japanese shipping company Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK).

The management contracts were signed at a ceremony in the German Embassy in Tokyo on 1 September 2016 and include crewing and technical operations as well as quality management, safety, environmental protection and energy efficiency.

The handover of Dawn Horizon, a 2013-built vessel featuring a length of 300 meters and a width of 50 meters, took place in Caofeidian, China, on 30 July 2016.

The second ship will be added in September 2016, according to E.R. Schiffahrt.

Earlier this week, E.R. Capital Holding, a financial holding company and sole shareholder of Nordcapital, E.R. Schiffahrt and E.R. Offshore, and Rickmers, a service provider in the maritime transport sector and a containership owner based in Hamburg and Singapore, decided not to pursue the merger of their ship management units for the time of being.

Following this announcement, E.R. Schiffahrt said it will continue to follow its strategy of expanding its international third-party business and create long-term partnerships with shipping lines and private and institutional owners, particularly in Asia.
