Ecofys Studies OW Ancillary Services to Grid

A recently published Ecofys’ report investigates options for enhancing the so-called ancillary services that offshore wind farm could provide to the grid, and the additional earnings that this may bring.

Offshore wind farms, having a relatively stable feed-in, are particularly suitable for the provision of control reserve, an ancillary service that helps to maintain system stability.

Different case studies are examined that represent alternative control reserve market designs and take into account system security requirements and wind forecast uncertainty. The report outlines how these market designs individually affect the potential benefits of wind farm participation.
