EGS Wins Nautical Charting Gig (UK)

EGS International (EGSi) has been awarded a 3 to 5 year contract by the UK Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA), as part of the UK Civil Hydrography Program (CHP). The CHP is a multi-million pound Government initiative to prioritise and survey the waters surrounding the British Isles.

Under the CHP, EGS will be carrying out survey work for the primary purpose of updating the UK’s nautical charts and publications.

This contract award follows on from several successful surveys carried out by EGS in 2012 and 2013, for various UK government agencies (including the MCA).

In 2013 the UK Hydrographic Office updated several charts covering the South West coast of the UK, based on the EGS survey results, which were described as “excellent”.

For the CHP work, EGS, will primarily be using survey vessels: EGS Pioneer, Wessex Explorer and The Morven. Each vessel is fitted with a dual head Kongsberg mutibeam system (EM2040 or EM3002) and Applanix POSMV inertial navigation system. Bathymetry and Backscatter data will be post processed using Caris HIPS and SIPS, QPS Fledermaus. Navigation data will be processed using the Applanix POSPac Mobile Mapping Suite.

EGSi’s Survey Manager, Ross Taylor, commented that the hydrographic team worked hard in putting the successful EGSi proposal together and are delighted to be working on the CHP.
