Egypt launches tender for second FSRU

Egypt has reportedly launched a five-year tender on Sunday to lease a second floating storage and regasification terminal.

State-owned Egas sent the tender to eight international companies and expects to get a reply within a week, Reuters cited the company’s Chairman Khaled Abdel Badie as saying.

This would be Egypt’s second FSRU to be used an LNG import terminal as the Höegh Gallant commenced commercial operations in Ain Sokhna last month under its five-year contract with Egas.

Egypt, which turned from a net exporter to a net importer, signed several LNG supply deals with various players, and it will import at least 90 cargoes during this year and 2016.

LNG imports will help Egypt sort out the power shortages the country faced in the recent period.
