Eidesvik Offshore Orders New LNG-Powered Vessels from Kleven Maritime (Norway)

Kleven Maritime has entered into a contract with Eidesvik Offshore for the delivery of 1+1 advanced Platform Service Vessel of the VS 489 LNG design.

The vessels are to be outfitted at Kleven Verft in Ulsteinvik, Norway. Deliveries are set for Q1 and Q4 2012.

For Kleven Maritime it is especially welcome to have Eidesvik Offshore coming back to the group, having already delivered two very innovative vessels for the same owner.

In 1998 Kleven Verft delivered Viking Poseidon – at the time the world’s largest PSV at 93 * 22 meters, and featuring accommodation for 70.

In 2003 the yard delivered the world’s first LNG powered PSV – the Viking Energy – for Eidesvik Offshore.

Eidesvik Offshore as owners are in the absolute forefront with regards to environmentally friendly offshore vessels, with several vessels in their fleet powered by LNG.

At the same time Kleven Maritime maintains its position as pioneers in the building of LNG powered vessels, in total seven vessels including the two ordered at this time.

The new vessels represent a new generation of environmentally friendly platform service vessels with great emphasis on fuel economy, low emissions and large capacities both below and on deck.

Light ice class (ICE C) makes them suitable for northern waters.

Sophisticated equipment for oil recovery (OIL REC NOFO 2009) and capacity for standby vessel further increases market value.

Dead weight is 6 500 tons, length 90 meters, beam 21 meters, deck space more than 1 050 m2.

Four LNG dual fuel engines ensure low NOX emissions (85% reduction) and significantly reduce CO2 emissions (25% reduction).

A new state of the art system for purifying ballast water is installed, a requirement to be implemented for vessels of this kind.

Wärtsilä supplies design, generators, automation and electrical power systems.

The contracts will also enable major local supplies from – among others – , Hareid Elektriske Teknikk and Brunvoll Thrusters.

The contract value is MNOK 440 for the first vessel.

Kleven Maritime now has an order book of 11 vessels at a value of NOK 5,3 billions.
