Elia Issues UXO Call

Belgian transmission system operator Elia has invited tenders for unexploded ordnance (UXO) survey, identification and removal on the cable route of the Modular Offshore Grid (MOG) project in the Belgian sector of the North Sea.

The project works consist of the identification and removal within the area of the Offshore Switch Yard (OSY), the 50m corridor of one 220kV AC submarine power cable leading from OSY Platform to the first wind farm’s platform, and two 220kV AC cables going from the OSY Platform to the onshore connection point, located on the beach in Zeebrugge. The cable route length is approximately 39km.

The work is expected to start in early April 2018 and finish by the end of September 2018.

The tender remains open until 17 July, 2017.

The Modular Offshore Grid project is aimed at connecting offshore wind farms to a high-voltage substation located on the offshore platform, which will, in turn, be connected to the onshore grid.

In the long term, the modular grid infrastructure is planned to be connected to an international platform using direct-current connections, in order to transmit greater quantities of power over longer distances.
