EMEC tenders for tripod foundation removal

The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) is looking to appoint a contractor to remove a tripod foundation installed at its grid-connected tidal test site to ready the berth for future developers.

Aside from tripod foundation removal, under the contract worth £500,000 the contractor will also be required to produce a decommissioning case study report summarizing the work undertaken and recommendations to ensure cost and risk reductions in future.

EMEC said the case study is being developed to generate knowledge around decommissioning as it represented a relatively unexplored part of the marine renewables lifecycle.

The study will be shared with the sector to better inform technology and site developers, funders and other stakeholders on the costs and practicalities of decommissioning.

The tripod foundation is installed at EMEC’s Fall of Warness tidal test site in Orkney, and was used by TGL/Alstom who tested there from 2009 until 2016.

The removal of the foundation is being conducted to ready the site for forthcoming FORESEA developers testing.

The deadline to apply to tender is set for May 15, 2017.
