ENAP Carries Out LPG Truck Turnover Drill, Chile

ENAP Carries Out LPG Truck Turnover Drill

In order to evaluate the contractors who provide fuel transportation services to ENAP, a controlled drill was carried out, at Enagab Transport Base, located in Maquehua, in Curicó, which affected a truck loaded with Petroleum Liquefied Gas (LPG).

This is the second drill of this kind that ENAP carries out framed within a series of exercises that will be implemented with its contractors in each Subsidiary. The first was carried out on August 11, at the Rosario Base of Transports Santa María, in Rengo, Sixth Region, with a truck loaded with Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

The operation was conducted in conjunction with the transportation company Enangab, one of the companies working with ENAP in the transportation of LPG, the Chilean Safety Association (ACHS) and SUATRANS (company specializing in delivering industrial emergency support) with the collaboration of Firefighters and police from Curicó.

The maneuver seemed very real and began at 11 a.m. in the parking lot of the base, with the simulation of a tanker truck rollover, resulting in an injured driver and damaged tank fully loaded with LPG.

The Emergency Procedure of Enangab Transports Base was immediately activated, giving the alarm to  SUATRANS, which in turn, simulated containment and transfer of LPG from the tank into another empty one. Previously, the area was isolated and necessary steps were taken to make the rescue operation and fuel transfer safe. An ACHS ambulance was also present at the spot, whose representatives rescued the injured driver, providing him with first aid and took him to a nearby medical facility.

After the exercise, which lasted two hours, the drill was successfully evaluated, confirming that the procedures and standards governing road transport of fuel are met. This initiative is part of the policy to comply with the rules that ENAP has self-imposed to guarantee the security of people, facilities and the environment.

The drill was attended by municipal authorities, and was informed in advance to the ONEMI of the Seventh Region as well as to the Administration and Regional Government, the Municipality of Curicó, and the Director of the Hospital of this city.
