EPA still concerned over Freeport LNG environmental impact

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency showed its continued concern over the environmental impacts of Freeport LNG in form of a letter sent to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, urging it to reexamine all the issues impacting the surrounding communities.

We recommend that FERC re-evaluate the FEIS’s conclusion that the proposed project will not disproportionately affect minority and low-income populations in the project area.

We also recommend that FERC work with the residents of the Town of Quintana to more clearly identify the proposed mitigation measures for the identified significant impacts and explore opportunities for additional mitigation measures to reduce the severity ofthe anticipated impacts,” EPA said in the letter.

Freeport LNG is proposing to add liquefaction infrastructure at the existing terminal located in Brazoria County, Texas, to provide nominal export capacity of approximately 13.2 mtpa of LNG, which equates to processing approximately 2.0 Bcf/d of pipeline-quality natural gas.

The feed gas will be derived from the interconnecting intrastate pipeline systems through Freeport LNG’s existing Stratton Ridge meter station.
