Equinor cleared to use new subsea production facility on Visund

Norway’s safety watchdog, the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA), has given its consent to Equinor for the use of a new subsea production facility and wells on the Visund field offshore Norway.

Equinor and other Visund licensees are now extending the field with an extra subsea template with four well slots. The project has been named “Visund Nord IOR”.

The safety agency informed on Friday that it has given its consent for use of the subsea production facility and wells at Visund Nord IOR.

Visund is an oil and gas field in blocks 34/8 and 34/7, 22 kilometers north-east of the Gullfaks field in the Tampen area of the Norwegian North Sea.

Equinor is the operator with a 53.2% interest and its partners Petoro, ConocoPhillips, and Repsol Norge have 30%, 9.1%, and 7.7% interest, respectively.

On stream in the spring of 1999, the Visund development embraces a floating production, drilling and quarters platform.

The subsea-completed wells on the field are tied back to the floater with flexible risers. Oil is piped to Gullfaks for storage and export. The Visund field began producing gas and exporting it to continental Europe on October 7, 2005.

Visund Nord is a oil and gas field  located 10 kilometers from the Visund A platform. The field is developed by means of a subsea installation with two wells and is tied back to the Visund A platform. Visund Nord started producing in November 2013.
