EU calls for input on LNG strategy

The European Commission launched a public consultation on a strategy for LNG and gas storage that will boost security and competitiveness of supply in the EU.

The EU Communication commits us to developing a comprehensive LNG and storage strategy that will explore the full potential of LNG and gas storage in the mid- to long-term, and to identifying how it can enhance security and competitiveness of supply in the EU, in particular through diversification of sources,” the Commission said on Wednesday.

The strategy will look at both the internal EU dimension and international issues.

The objective of this consultation is to ask stakeholders for their views on the challenges and opportunities they see for LNG and gas storage in the EU and how these might boost security of supply, competitiveness and sustainability, according to the statement.

We will also seek the views of stakeholders as to where the EU could play a role and which potential actions the EU could envisage in order to achieve these goals,” the statement added.

Responses to this public consultation have to be submitted by Wednesday, 30 September 2015.
