Europe’s attempts to diversify its sources of natural gas in order to ensure its energy security could be boosted by importing U.S. LNG, Marty Durbin, executive director for market development at American Petroleum Institute, said.

“America’s growth in natural gas production means that through LNG exports we can give our allies stability and security in the global natural gas market,” Durbin said.

In a statement on Thursday, he noted that the United States are leading the world in oil and natural gas production and that the shale gas revolution boosted the economy of the U.S.

He added that, through exports, the United States could support its allies in achieving their goals.
