FERC postpones Jordan Cove LNG EIS decision

The United States Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has revised its schedule for the completion of the environmental impact statement (EIS) for the Jordan Cove Energy project. 

Previously, the regulator issued a notice highlighting October 11, 2019 and January 9, 2020, as respective dates for the final EIS and order issuances.

The U.S. Forest Service, who is a cooperating agency in the EIS preparation, only recently received critical information from the project proponent that is necessary for it to complete its land and resource management plan amendments; therefore, additional time is required in order to incorporate this new information into the final EIS.

Accordingly, FERC has revised the schedule for issuance of the final EIS, targeting the date for the issuance of final EIS as November 15, 2019, while the order date has been set to February 13, 2020.

In May this year, the project proponent, the Canadian energy infrastructure company Pembina has pushed back its Jordan Cove LNG project’s expected start-up date to 2025.

The $10 billion project proposed for the export terminal in Coos County, Oregon has a planned capacity of 7.8 million ton per annum. It also includes a 229-mile, 36-inch diameter pipeline from Malin in Klamath County to the facility in Coos Bay.
