Finland’s Speed adds LNG truck to fleet

A shipping container transport company, Speed of Finland added a liquefied natural gas-fueled truck to its fleet operating from Helsinki’s Vuosaari Harbor.

Speed’s managing director Tuomo Vallas said that LNG is a natural step in the company’s transition to green transport following a for year trial of an Eco-truck.

He added that the LNG-fuelled fleet at Speed is likely to increase in the future.

In order to provide fuel to the heavy-duty transport in the region, Finland’s Gasum is developing an LNG refueling station at Vuosaari Harbor, scheduled for opening in August.

Gasum expects to add around 35 fueling stations over the next ten years. In addition to the LNG station at Vuosaari Harbor, an LCNG filling station will be put in service at the Port of Turku in September. Two more LCNG stations, one in Jyväskylä and one in Vantaa will be opened in 2017, Gasum said.
