Finnish dual-fuel icebreaker named

Arctech Helsinki Shipyard on Friday held a naming ceremony for the dual-fueled 110 metres long icebreaker currently under construction.

According to the Finnish shipbuilder, the vessel named Polaris features ice-strengthened propulsion units and oil recovery system integrated into the hull.

Arctech said in its statement that the icebreaker is powered by both diesel and LNG.

It has been designed for the icebreaking operations in the Baltic sea and will be fitted for oil recovery and emergency towing.

The vessel will soon be floated out of the construction hall for final outfitting and commissioning.

It is scheduled to be delivered to its owner, Arctia Shipping, during winter of 2016.
