A fire broke out on board Eni-operated Goliat FPSO early on Friday, forcing the Italian oil company to halt production from the Barents Sea field off Norway.

At 6.30 am on Friday a fire developed in the sauna in the living quarters on Goliat FPSO, Eni informed.

The Italian company said that the situation quickly came under control, but some smoke development did occur. No one was injured in connection with the incident.

According to the company, the production was shut down and the crew mustered to the lifeboats. All relevant authorities were notified.

The situation is normalized and the crew has demobilized in accordance with normal procedure.

“Eni Norge is taking the incident seriously and is initiating an investigation to find causal links and lessons learnt,” Eni concluded.
