Fire Onboard MV 'HANSA BRANDENBURG'

Shipmanagement Company Leonhardt & Blumberg Hamburg, Germany reports that on July 15 2013 a cargo container caught fire onboard MV “HANSA BRANDENBURG” container ship, during her voyage from Singapore to Durban about 200 nautical miles northeast of Mauritius.

The Croatian Master and the complete crew of Ukrainian and Kiribati nationality left the ship and have been safely rescued by MV “DONAU TRADER”.

In addition Leonhardt & Blumberg is trying to collect information on the status of MV “HANSA BRANDENBURG” and assessment of the damage to the ship and any potential damage to the environment.

“The exact cause of the incident is yet unknown. A full investigation will be conducted,” the company said in a press release.

MV “HANSA BRANDENBURG”, Gross Tonnage 18334, is a 2003 built container vessel with a capacity of 1.740 TEU. She is flying the Liberian flag.
